Enforcement procedure
The Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC) is responsible for enforcing the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018 (the 'accessibility regulations'). If you're not happy with how we respond to your complaint, contact the Equality Advisory and Support Service (EASS).
Department for Science, Innovation and Technology is committed to making its website accessible, in accordance with the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018.
Compliance status
The website has been tested against the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 AA standard.
This website is partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.2 AA standard, due to the non-compliances listed below.
Non-accessible content
The content listed below is non-accessible for the following reasons.
Non-compliance with the accessibility regulations
The service largely conforms to WCAG 2.2 Level A and AA. However, the following minor issue has been identified:
- Resize Text (WCAG 2.2 – 1.4.4)
- Reflow (WCAG 2.2 – 1.4.10)
When the page is zoomed to 200% and 400%, a dropdown component may cause some options to become partially clipped. This means that at high zoom levels, some dropdown content may not be fully visible without additional interaction.
This issue may affect users with low vision who rely on zoom and reflow to access content.
No other WCAG 2.2 Level A or Level AA failures were identified during testing.
Content that's not within the scope of the accessibility regulations
The accessibility audit covered the following user journeys within the service:
- Search by postcode
- Address selection
- Availability result pages
- Error and exception flows within the postcode journey
The following are outside the scope of this statement:
- Other pages not listed above
- Testing on real mobile or tablet devices
- WCAG 2.2 Level AAA success criteria
The service was tested using the following browsers: Chrome, Edge and Safari. It was also tested for mobile and tablet screen sizes using browser-based responsive extensions and simulation tools. However, it was not tested on physical mobile or tablet devices.
In addition, the service does not contain video, live media, audio content, authentication flows, or legal/financial transaction functionality, and therefore related WCAG criteria do not apply within the assessed scope.
What we're doing to improve accessibility
Accessibility was considered throughout the design and development of this service. It has been developed and tested against WCAG 2.2 AA standards.
Accessibility checks formed part of the development lifecycle and included manual and semi-automated testing using assistive technologies and accessibility evaluation tools. This covered keyboard navigation testing, screen reader testing (NVDA, VoiceOver and JAWS), and browser zoom validation.
For any future updates or enhancements to the service, we will continue to apply the same accessibility standards and testing approach.
Preparation of this accessibility statement
This statement was prepared in February 2026.
The assessment was carried out by SoftServe's Digital Accessibility Center of Excellence using a combination of:
- Manual testing with assistive technologies (NVDA, VoiceOver, JAWS)
- Keyboard-only testing
- Screen magnifier testing at 200% and 400% zoom
- Semi-automated testing tools including Axe, ANDI, ARC Toolkit, and Colour Contrast Analyzer
The service was evaluated against Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 Level A and Level AA.
A full Accessibility Conformance Report (VPAT® 2.5 format) is available upon request.
This statement will be reviewed and updated following remediation of the identified issue or when significant changes are made to the service.
